The hotel is in a beautiful and peaceful location. The style is one of relaxed elegance, comfortable but not over the top. Our room was in the first outside block, and was spacious and well equipped. The staff were, without exception, delightful. Everyone was friendly and helpful, making every effort to make sure that we had a good time. And the restaurant was excellent. My partner has some dietary challenges, and the kitchen went above and beyond our expectations to adapt the menu to cater for these. Our 'Staycation' package included one evening experiencing the “tasting menu”, and that was a delight, and the extra charge for different wines to accompany each course was great value. Overall, this was a delightful experience which we would happily repeat.

Absolutely outstanding. A magical experience . We stayed 4 nights and could have stayed longer. Our room was perfect with uninterrupted views across the Tamar Valley.
All staff were friendly, attentive and highly trained. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding. We’ve eaten in many fine and highly applauded restaurants in the UK and in Europe and the cuisine at The Horn of Plenty topped them all. Congratulations to chef and team for achieving perfection for us. If you are considering booking a short stay or a longer break, hesitate no more. This is the hotel to book. There are so many places to see and visit. We will return as this is now our favourite place to be.

Excellent setting, superb afternoon tea! We enjoyed every minute with a wonderful relaxed atmosphere and stunning views of the countryside. Staff were attentive but not suffocating, and the afternoon tea selection was all fresh and delicious - Presented beautifully. Welcomed by our hosts on arrival, and enjoyed drinks on the veranda before enjoying our food in the dining room. Wonderful all round. Would recommend to any who enjoy a quiet, unhurried special treat.

Well, what can I say about this beautiful gem of a place.
Stayed here for one night as a treat for my partners birthday just fantastic the staff were lovely, very helpful and super friendly the room was just pure luxurious and the food, well, this was simply fine dining at its best. When we was asked how our meal was I replied "just perfect " I handed our waitress the salt and pepper mills and said you don't need these on the table they are an insult the the chefs, the food was perfectly seasoned and we all agreed and chuckled to each other. If you get the chance "GO" you won't be disappointed.

Having lived in the area for around two and a half years, always planned to enjoy an afternoon tea. Various people we've met, recommended this venue and so with my wife's impending birthday, booked us in. What a stunning place, the grounds, views, just stunning. Wonderful staff, who looked after us so well. Seated looking out to the gorgeous garden decking, gardens, gamboling lambs and distant forestry, we started with a lovely glass of Prosecco. Then the afternoon tea arrived, looking immaculately presented. The selection of ham, salmon and egg sandwiches were perfect. Two types of scones with plenty of clotted cream and jam, were warm and so fresh. Then the selection of sweets, were amazing. All washed down with a fine pot of breakfast tea. All excellent and in the most fitting of setting's. A wonderful afternoon, which we finished with, by walking around the pristine gardens.

We had a wonderful stay at The Horn of Plenty, the room was lovely with a wonderful view of the countryside and a view of two beautiful sunsets on our little balcony! We did the Escape to the Country Break, 3 courses one night and 6 course tasting the other-all the dishes were beautifully presented, well balanced and delicious. Breakfast was also freshly cooked with lots of choice and local produce. The chefs clearly knows their stuff! All the staff are friendly and attentive and the lounge with the open fire is a nice place to relax.

This was the second year running we have been to stay for a three night Gourmet Break at The Horn of Plenty. This year the high standard of food under the amazing head chef was notable. With clean, well defined flavours and textures, adding an extra notch of sophistication to the three dinners from the very generous menu we enjoyed last week. The wine list could be expanded to do justice to the cooking. As usual the service was warm and the epitome of hospitality. The affable and well travelled new owner of the hotel was present and readily available at breakfast and dinner, to respond to any questions that anyone asked. Our room 6, in the Coach House, had his and hers wash basins a large double headed shower and roll top bath in the large bathroom. The bedroom, perfectly decent in size and the view from the bed and the private terrace over the walled garden and across the Tamar Valley to the tors on the horizon across Dartmoor was just fabulous, particularly at sunset. A hotel which is perfect to walk and explore the Tamar Valley and Dartmoor. If you want to feel cosseted, pampered and relaxed, we cannot think of a better place to stay for three nights.

We visited the Horn of Plenty for a two night stay to celebrate a Birthday. The stay was booked via the website and all the details of the stay were stipulated at the time of booking. This included the choice of a specific room and extras to be in the room on arrival. I telephoned the Hotel to make sure that everything was in place in accordance with their confirmation email. All details were confirmed by the Hotel and were exactly as booked. We stayed in a fantastic room and all of the extras were in place on arrival and exceeded expectations. The restaurant provided two superb evening dinners, one from the Table d'hote and one Taster Menu with Wine Flight. Both dinners were exceptional in quality, service and value. Beyond this we also enjoyed breakfasts with great choice of food and drink and the same level of service as at the evening meals. On departure we were provided with a picnic lunch of high quality. We recieved a superb welcome on arrival and were made to feel very special by everyone at the Hotel throughout our stay. We would be happy to recommend Horn of Plenty to all our friends and family and would be confident that they would enjoy a similar exceptional stay.

This was our second visit after a stay in 2020, and it was probably even better! We stayed for 3 nights, we enjoyed stunning food (good veggie options), beautiful room and most of all tremendous staff. We were made to feel welcome, and any time that the staff could have improved our stay they did. Will hopefully be returning again soon.
Maggie and Richard, Dec 2022
This was our first visit to The Horn of Plenty and it certainly won't be our last. From stepping in through the front door to a cheerful friendly greeting to checking out our experience was one of a happy professional well managed team.
We were very impressed with room 11. The fittings and furnishings were of a very high standard the bed extremely comfortable and the terrace and views exceptional.
All staff members were polite and helpful. In this day and age it is so good to find personnel with "a can do attitude" nothing was too much trouble. The food was plentiful and of excellent quality. There was a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere throughout our 3 day stay both from staff members and guests.

Can't praise this hotel enough. From the minute you walk through the door, the feeling of returning home envelops you. The staff, comfort, food and location are second to none. Not a cheap stay but worth every penny for what's offered. All the staff are very helpful from the reception team to the room cleaning staff. Can't wait to return again (our 6th time) and especially looking forward to seeing the new decor following the re-fit in the main house.
David S, Dec 2022
From the warm friendly but professional welcome to checking out after our one night stay everything was great. Our well designed and furnished room in the coach house was described as medium sized but would have easily qualified as large in many hotels. Dinner (three course) was perfect in quality and service, followed by coffee in the drawing room made for a lovely evening. We certainly intend to return sooner rather than later.
Lisa R - Trip Advisor, Nov 2022
What an absolute Gem of a place!
We arrived to a warm and sincere welcome at reception, the grounds and view were simply stunning, our room in the new coach house was well thought out and spotlessly clean we had everything we needed for a relaxing stay beautiful view, mini fridge/bar, fresh milk, delightful hot drinks selection and biscuits.
We had the set evening dinner menu, tasting menu, Sunday lunch ( Roast Beef to die for) and the delicious breakfast each morning. Excellent selection of wines and we were both amazed at how reasonably priced everything was!
The food was absolutely gorgeous, the flavour, aroma’s and presentation superb….yes I agree if you stayed longer than 3 nights you may long for something simple and traditional and guess what, The Horn Of Plenty has exactly that, their bar and lounge menu.
With all of the above said the really Outstanding thing for us was the staff!
In these times it was truly wonderful to see SO many staff-in all areas, they genuinely made us feel what ever we needed if at all possible they would deliver, they exceeded our expectations.
People come away for so many reasons, The Horn Of plenty could teach a few hotels a thing or two …It was an absolute pleasure from start to finish, thank you all
Michael Thomas, Nov 2022
Lovely hotel. Setting was ideal, could not fault the views. Quiet location. Was greeted warmly by reception and showed to our room. We had the afternoon tea which was superb. The breakfast was lovely, so much to choose from and the staff were very helpful and nothing was a problem.
Benson - Trip Advisor, Oct 2022
We have stayed in this fantastic hotel many times. It has undergone improvement since our last stay which has improved an already first class dining experience. Having an electric car it’s good to find the hotel has now installed a couple of charging points. The staff are very attentive and helpful which all adds up to a very enjoyable stay.
David - Trip Advisor, Sep 2022
My wife & I have continued to dine at The Horn of Plenty over the past 20 years, and have seen the place change hands 3 times, each one brought improvements. We didn’t meet the new owner when we lunched there today, however the staff were still as friendly and efficient as previously, and the food was as always magnificent. Lunches are for such exceptional food most reasonably priced.
When we have friends come to visit and chose to stay in a hotel, we recommend The Horn of Plenty as it is something quite special. If ever in this neck of the woods and need a place to stay with great food look no further than the Horn of Plenty.
Paul H - Trip Advisor, Sep 2022
The room was nice with fantastic views of the valley. The staff were very friendly and eager to help as was the owner. The gardens were a joy to walk around. The food was amazing. Highly recommended..

My husband and I were so impressed when we visited here for the first time last year, that we had to return. What can I say other than you once again met our expectation. The beautiful scenery, gardens and landscaping promotes a relaxing and romantic atmosphere. Your staff are so welcoming and attentive. We requested an upgrade to a luxury room in the coachhouse on our second night, and your lovely housekeeping team helped facilitate this. The beds are so comfortable and the peace and quiet means a good night sleep. I loved our room 14 and having the sheep so close whilst drinking a morning coffee. The main reason we returned however, was for the delicious food. Ashley and his team once again served up an amazing 6 course taster menu. Every aspect of every dish was perfection. The A la Carte menu and breakfast also delivered! Ashley, it was great to meet you and Congratulations. You will see us again!!
A special mention to our waitress who was friendly, professional, attentative and knowledgeable on the menu!! A true asset to to the hotel.

I stayed for one night with my husband on our way to the North Devon coast. On arrival we received a very warm welcome. Our room was comfortable, quiet and spacious. We really appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities and the cold milk. The room had everything, even an iron and board discreetly tucked away. I loved the bright colour scheme, so different to the drab beiges and greys seen in so many hotels nowadays. It was really uplifting. The roof terrace is a great place for drinks, with a wonderful view towards Bodmin Moor. The hotel grounds are quite extensive and well kept. The whole hotel has a well cared for feel and all the staff we met seemed to take a pride in their work. The breakfast was very good, I felt it was very competitively priced for bed and breakfast. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.
Alessandro T, Aug 2022
Beautiful country house in an amazing location, with views on the valley from some of the rooms, the restaurant terrace and the garden. Very comfortable and clean, quiet room. Impeccable service.
Do try their restaurant for dinner: local ingredients and great taste.
If you are crossing Dartmoor National Park, it is located shortly after Tavistock.

We had a very enjoyable stay in Jul for my wife’s birthday. The friendly welcome from reception and the attentive service by all the waitresses was excellent and made the evening very enjoyable. The room was spacious and had everything you could need with a great, immaculate bathroom making the stay very comfortable. Dinner commenced with canapes on the terrace with a gin and tonic and was very, very good with beautifully cooked bass and lamb. Breakfast was very enjoyable with great views over the valley. The staff have the balance between formal and friendly absolutely spot on. Will definitely return.
Rob L, Jul 2022
Looking for somewhere to celebrate completing 30 years as a teacher, and also looking to add to our list of boltholes when we need a break, my wife and I decided to try out Horn of Plenty. We are very pleased we did. A lovely hotel, amazing food, views and gardens and excellent, friendly service. I had one of the best nights sleep I've had in ages. What a tonic.
We will definitely be coming back.
Bryan Levy, Jul 2022
A stunning quiet beautiful hotel in a uniquely glorious location. This place has style and benefits from a peaceful quiet glorious view of the West Devon valleys. The hotel offers very comfortable rooms with every facility one could want. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome and can't wait to return. The food was of a very high standard. A short 3 day stay but we are determined to come back!
Tracy K, Jun 2022
We had a fabulous time on a three day gourmet weekend break at this hotel. The room was beautiful - spotlessly clean, comfortable and well appointed with a large balcony and amazing views over the Tamar Valley. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and we could not fault the service. The food is worth every penny. We have stayed at many hotels over the years and it was amongst the best we have eaten. Only downside is that we have both put on weight!!! Would definitely love to return.
Luke - Trip advisor, Apr 2022
Absolutely over the moon with this place, it’s simply outstanding. The grounds are in pristine condition and the building is simply stunning. The staff are what make this place even better, they are very genuine and friendly. The room was cosy, intimate and decorated to a high standard, and the toiletries add a touch of pizzazz. Last an not least the food is unbelievable!!! I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection. Best place I have ever stayed in and would love to return.
Sue Lawson, Mar 2022
Thank you for the great experience we had staying at your hotel.
The room was comfortable and provided everything we needed. It was immaculate and the bed was very comfortable too.
The restaurant experience was superb and the food really beautifully prepared and cooked! You richly deserve your 3* from the AA.
We will return.
David Tucker, Mar 2022
This is just to say what a wonderful time we had during our short stay with you (Thursday and Friday) last week.
We very much appreciate all that goes into making a stay so special - staff, the building, the bedroom, the food and the nice touches that make such a difference.
I have been exceedingly fortunate to have travelled with business and stayed in many special hotels, even the Hotel Paris in Monaco. But I really would prefer to stay, and eat, at the Horn of Plenty – if you could just arrange some warm sun.
The food is outstanding, and you manage to maintain such a high and consistent standard. I think that was our 5th visit to you in the past twelve months, but I assure you there will be more. We’ve already brought two other couples and introduced them to your excellent hotel, and we will be back soon.
Thank you and all your staff once again for a memorable and special time celebrating our anniversary..
Mrs Cazaly, Mar 2022
Our stay with you was the most relaxing experience in a long time. We were very grateful to receive an upgrade which was beautiful and a very kind gesture.
Everything from the drive up on arrival with the hotel all lit up, to our warm welcome by Gill , the food wow it blew us away & the staff utterly charming, each and everyone. It left us both feeling relaxed & recharged and made my birthday extra special.
We have actually booked to return for our 26th anniversary in September as just the perfect place to mark the occasion on your ESCAPE offer which sounds amazing!
Thank you again & we look forward to seeing you all later this year.
Mr & Mrs Pollard, Feb 2022
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Horn of Plenty. It was excellent in every respect, from the friendly and informative welcome to the well organised check-out.
A comfortable and immaculate room commanding a wonderful view, delicious food and wine served by superb staff with a genuine desire to please... we couldn't have asked for anything more!
Speaking as inveterate hotel users, we have rarely encountered such attention to detail.
Many thanks to you and your team for making our visit so memorable. We certainly intend to return before too long.
Mr & Mrs Bowden, Feb 2022
The stay that my wife and I had with you at the Horn of Plenty exceeded all of our expectations,we had a wonderful weekends stay for my wife's birthday.
The food was outstanding and all of the staff were just amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them, they always had a smile on their faces and made our weekend perfect.
It was our first stay with you but it definitely will not be our last, already we have been on your website looking for another break. Thank you once again.
Dr Watson via Tripadvisor, Nov 2021
Exceeded expectations, and then some! The food and wine were absolutely superb, the staff could not do enough to make our visit special. We have dined all over the world, it many types of cuisine and establishments, this stands above them all. Ash and his team should be proud, they are amazing. I could not fault a single dish. Sad to say, they’ve set a benchmark now, which I doubt can be beaten Thank you so much for a superb evening, we will not hesitate to return
Mark Higgs, Oct 2021
Just a short note to thank everybody for making our stay, and my birthday, memorable. From check-in to check-out our experience was way above what we expected. All our needs were catered for along with those of our faithful old hound who enjoyed his treats at dinner and his sausage at breakfast.
The stand out for us were the staff, all of whom were well-trained, smiling, attentive without being intrusive and a credit to your fine establishment... We will be back and look forward to our next visit.
M Townsend via Tripadvisor, Oct 2021
An absolutely outstanding stay at The Horn Of Plenty!
It was my wife’s second 25th birthday, and we could not have been looked after more. Every single member of staff was on the same page - customer well and truly first. I simply cannot fault you!
Now, when it comes to the food, that is on another level altogether…out of this world! From the cooked breakfast (first class) to the duck (world class), you have really got this right!
Thank you for a wonderful weekend. I cannot wait to come back.
Mrs S Whimster, Oct 2021
This was our first visit to you, and we want to thank you all so much for making our stay such an enjoyable one. The staff were incredibly helpful, charming and attentive – they really stand out for their friendliness and willingness – and nothing was too much trouble from advice as to where we could get some diesel (!) to allowing us to look at one of the rooms in the coach house with a view to organising a family visit next year.
We enjoyed all our meals, and the tasting menu was memorable. We loved our very spacious room and bathroom and would have enjoyed the balcony had the weather allowed it! All in all a lovely stay in a beautiful spot, and we look forward to being back with you before too long.
Carolyne G, Aug 2021
Beautiful lunch, very attentive and caring.Food was superb, beautifully presented and too beautiful to look at to eat...waitress service excellent.
David Hanson via Tripadvisor, Dec 2020
I’ve been lucky enough to visit a few times and always had excellent food and service. With its location tucked away on the moor and off the beaten track it perhaps needs to be special. We visited for cream tea which was included a handmade chocolate cup, better than the Ritz! Great quality and very reasonable.
Vivienne Catlover via Tripadvisor, Dec 2020
Hubby and I had a belated birthday lunch yesterday (due to the last COVID lockdown) and it was superb. The standard of food is excellent and dining there is a real luxurious experience. It’s also very good value for money considering the little extras included (a mini ham hock terrine and spicy prawn before we started our meal and a mince pie and jelly after we had finished our 3 course lunch). The staff are lovely and it felt completely COVID safe. Can’t wait for another reason to go again.
Sue & Frank Ravening by email, Oct 2020
Having just returned home we’d like to congratulate you on the fantastic experience you gave us.
It was a special occasion for us and all the little touches you gave us made it just that.
The food was exceptional, as was the room, and the friendly, professional service we received from all your staff was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you once again and we hope, to see you all again.
Sarah Hardwick by email, Oct 2020
I recently stayed with you for dinner, bed and breakfast for my husband's birthday with two of our good friends. From start to finish the whole stay was absolutely perfect, beautifully clean rooms, superb setting in your library for pre-dinner drinks followed by an absolutely delicious evening meal. The chef even made a wonderful Happy Birthday out of chocolate for my husband 🙂 The bed was comfy, the room beautifully quiet and the bathroom glorious! The breakfast in the morning was delicious also, a super start to the day.
Thank you so much, we would love to come back - we live a whole 3 miles away from you but it is such a treat!
Tel Hayes via Google, Aug 2020
Probably the best little hotel in the West. Definitely our favourite. The staff are all genuinely friendly and devoted to making your stay perfect . The food is out of this world and the dining room has been extended by the construction of a large patio area giving you the choice of dining al fresco or indoors. Either way the fantastic views are breathtaking. Although we always stay in the same room I am sure that all of the rooms are equally superb. It is a very special place and unbelievable good value for money.
Stuart Luck via Google, Aug 2020
We have stayed at the hotel many times over the years & it has always been excellent. Amazingly, in these troubled times it has stayed excellent! The room was superb, overlooking a field of sheep & rabbits. The staff included lots of "old" faces & the food is to die for. It is the only place I know where we can eat 3 courses - each one superb - and not have indigestion when we go to bed! It is a VERY classy hotel, but the staff are so friendly & make you feel at home. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We look forward to our next stay!
Rona and Ed, Feb 2020
The room was lovely as was the food. It's the friendly staff and personal vibe that really makes The Horn extra special, and a place we keep coming back to.... The personal relationships are memorable.
Julie Friend, Jan 2020
Just a quick note to say how much we appreciated the effort all the staff put into making our day really special on the 21st December.
Judging by the number of people who’ve made very favourable comments about the wonderful food and the whole atmosphere in general, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Please say a very big thank you to everyone on our behalf, for making our Ruby Wedding lunch a day to remember.
Michael Spiers by letter, Jan 2020
A huge thank you to you and your team for makig our party such a great success. The food was excellent, service outstanding and the room looked amazing! Shirna, Natasha and Reception were so helpful and efficient. I have to say I have been coming to The Horn of Plenty for over 50 years, and you shoudl be very proud to have maintained such high and professional standards.
