Why The Horn of Plenty Is One of the Best Restaurants in Devon

Are we being so bold as to declare ourselves one of the best restaurants in Devon?

Yes and no. Naturally, we take enormous pride in the quality of our food and service – but it’s our reviews and accolades that really seal the deal.

In other words, we don’t have to sing our own praises. We have plenty of customers and connoisseurs who are happy to lead the choir.

Here are a few words from our biggest fans.

The AA considers us one of the best restaurants in Devon

AA Rosettes are among the most prestigious restaurant awards in the UK. Since their introduction in 1956, they’ve helped countless savvy travellers discover a world of wonderful cuisine.

In March 2022, The Horn of Plenty was awarded 3 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. Needless to say, we were delighted.

Does this make us one of the best restaurants in Devon? We think so. After all, we’re one of only a handful of restaurants in Devon and Cornwall that have achieved the accolade.

And as the AA itself says, the award is only given to ‘outstanding restaurants that achieve standards that demand recognition well beyond their local area’. Doesn’t that just say it all?

That’s not the only trophy in our cabinet, either. We also won the Taste of the West Gold Award for eight years straight!

Our food ‘exceeded expectations, and then some!

Awards stoke our pride, but customer testimonials warm our hearts.

Nothing makes us happier than knowing a customer has had a memorable experience. We put hours of care and attention into our dishes, and a glowing review makes it all feel worth it.

So imagine how pleased we were when a diner said our food ‘exceeded expectations, and then some!’

What’s more, the reviewer had visited restaurants across the world – and noted that ours ‘stands above them all’.

Not to blow our own trumpets, but we’re inclined to agree.

Our food is our pride and joy. Thanks to the expert guidance of head chef Ashley Lewis, we’ve created a unique take on British cuisine – rich in hearty local ingredients, yet presented with a distinctly French flair.

Whether you stop by for a quick lunch or sample our six-course tasting menu, we guarantee you’ll remember it for many years to come.

Or how about a little afternoon tea? We’ll serve up a selection of dainty sandwiches, homemade scones and lashings of clotted cream. If it’s a really special occasion, you can even top it off with a glass of bubbly. Cheers to that!

Our views are ‘wonderful’ and ‘breathtaking’

Food is of the utmost importance, of course. But to truly be among the best restaurants in Devon, you’ve got to delight the eyes as well as the taste buds.

Do we deliver on this front? Our customers certainly seem to think so.

The Horn of Plenty is situated in a luxurious Georgian manor house, set among five acres of plush, well-tended gardens. Guests are always quick to praise the stunning views of the Tamar Valley below, calling them ‘breathtaking’, ‘gorgeous’ and ‘wonderful’.

Pay us a visit and you’ll be treated to a true countryside oasis. Here, peace and quiet is our bread and butter.

Why not take a seat in our bright, glass-fronted dining room and marvel as the Devonshire countryside unfurls before you? Or – if the weather’s particularly lovely – you could sit on our veranda and enjoy the soothing sound of birdsong as you dine.
