Don't just take our word for it...

Warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere

We’ve been to the Horn of Plenty quite a few times in the last few years, normally for our wedding anniversary but most recently for a birthday celebration. Always a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere, no stuffiness here. We particularly like the rooms in the converted coach house, especially number 15 with its balcony and glorious views over the countryside. Dinner and breakfast are always excellent and there’s a good selection of wines available too.

The dates of our ‘life events’ mean that our visits are always off-season, and the hotel really offers very good value for money at this time of year. We do look at what else is around, but we’re drawn back to the Horn of Plenty every time because of the great experiences we’ve always had.

It’s also worth driving through rather than around the national park to get to the hotel, to see just how beautiful this part of the world is.

Blown away by the experience!

We visited the Horn of Plenty this evening for dinner.  Service was second to none, very friendly staff who went out of their way to make you comfortable on arrival.  The whole evening was truly amazing, the quality of the food was just fantastic, totally blown away by the experience.

I look forward to returning on a regular basis.

Perfection on a plate!

Our overnight stay was truly memorable. The room (no.3) in the main house was just wonderful. The large balcony overlooked the gardens and valley beyond. The bedroom suite with feature fireplace and contemporary styling was a fusion of 2 ages with soft tones of lilacs and creams. Outside the manicured lawns and seasonal flowers opened out onto a canvas of forests and vales while glimpsing the curves of the Tamar river. Evening meal was a delight, the picture windows in the dining room mirrored the ‘perfection on a plate’ food, and breakfast equally so.  Smiles all round from staff to guests. Can’t wait to return…

I knew it would be good – but wow!

We’ve stayed in quite a few country house hotels over the years but until now, nothing as good as this. Arrived to prosecco and cream tea in the dining room overlooking that superb view of the Tamar valley. Room 4 was amazing, spacious, very clean and a huge bathroom. The bed was 8ft wide – we measured it! As expected the food was excellent on all 3 nights. The second night tasting menu was particularly good and the chef arranged for my wife to have special veggie courses for everything. Extremely friendly and courteous staff at all levels; at reception and checking in, helpful staff with settling in, very polite and attentive waiting staff, with good knowledge of the day’s menu and alternatives to some courses. Also very smartly turned out – that makes a difference. Breakfast choices were wide and excellent. Overall then, a wonderful experience which we will certainly repeat. The Horn of Plenty is one of the rare shining lights among the pale flickering candles of so-called luxury country house hotels and restaurants that we have visited over the years.
